Edward WOLFE 1897 - 1982

Biography

Born in South Africa in 1897, Edward Wolfe made his career in London after travelling there in 1916. In 1917 he attended the Slade School of Fine Art, and in 1918 exhibited with the London Group. Due to his interest in artistic circles and other artforms, he was drawn to the work of Matisse, as well as works by Russian avant-garde artists. Although much of his work is characterised by vivid colour, this intimate watercolour shares similar formal qualities with his other paintings.
