Donald WATSON 1918 - 2005

Biography

Born in Surrey in 1918, Donald Watson was a Scottish ornithologist and wildlife artist. In his early years, he was encouraged and influenced by Archibald Thorburn, and subsequently studied in Edinburgh where he became acquainted with members of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in Scotland. His interest in birds meant that from an artistic angle, he specialised in painting them in their natural environment. In addition to his book illustrations, he was also a founder member of the Society of Wildlife Artists, and became President of the Scottish Ornithologist's Club.
