Lady Audrey WALKER 1910 - 1996

Biography

Audrey Walker (née Glover) was born in Doncaster, but her father was from Dumfries in South West Scotland. Although denied the chance to go to university she was a talented violin player and was an Associate of the Royal College of Music, playing and teaching professionally.

She married Allan Grierson Walker, a Barrister, in 1935, and through her husband’s law work lived in Glasgow in the early 1950s. Tennis elbow prevented her from continuing with the violin but encouraged her other interest - photography. Apart from documenting her friend, Joan Eardley, Audrey was interested in the city of Glasgow, and later more nature-based subjects found in and around her second home at Shaws Farm in the Ettrick Valley.

She and Allan eventually retired to Dumfries in 1975 where she lived until her death in 1996.
