James McIntosh PATRICK 1907 - 1998

Biography

Born in Dundee in 1907, he was interested in art from an early age, and encouraged to pursue this by his father, an architect and amateur watercolourist. In 1924 he enrolled at the Glasgow School of Art, and extended his skills into etching. By the 1930s he moved into large scale landscape paintings in oil, and continued to work in this genre for the rest of his career.

Patrick's landscapes from the later stage of his career mainly recorded the countryside around where he lived in Angus, and are characterised by his traditional leanings, with a preference for large amounts of detail.
