Raymond MOORE 1920 - 1987

Biography

Born in Cheshire, Raymond Moore served in the RAF, before training as a painter at the Royal College of Art. After graduating, he became increasingly interested in photography, choosing to focus on everyday English landscapes. Despite the general subject matter, Moore's experiments with composition and framing allowed him to draw a specific peculiar quality from the landscapes before him.

Moore also taught photography throughout his career, primarily at Watford College, and in Nottingham. In 1978 however, he left this behind to pursue his photography in Cumbria. Despite his keen interest and exceptional skills as a photographer, it was only in 1976 that photography really became an accepted artform and allowed Moore to gain wider acclaim.
