Henry Wright KERR 1857 - 1936

Biography

Henry Wright Kerr typically worked in watercolour, and illustrated many books during his career, such as Reminiscences of Scottish Life and Character. Born in Edinburgh, he studied at the Life School of the Royal Scottish Academy, and also visited the Netherlands where the realist and sombre colours of the Hague School artists also influenced his work. While initially painting genre scenes of Scottish and Irish characters, after 1900 he increasingly worked in portraiture.
