Julie HOUSTON -

Biography

Julie Houston, since completing her Fine Art Degree at Duncan of Jordanstone College, Dundee, has exhibited and studied throughout Europe. Following her studies, Julie returned to Scotland and set up a studio in Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway.

Her abstract paintings with their bold colour and execution recall specifically the work of the Scottish Colourists, however Houston's approach to space and form is completely her own. Houston states that her artworks are primarily concerned with the exploration of the space that we inhabit everyday. The bright mesh of forms present in Analectic Connotations certainly brings up a variety of associations while Houston also manages to retain a coherent structural arrangement. In particular, the green crossbar cutting across the shapes almost suggests the viewer is peering through a window onto the collection of shapes.  She is based in Wigtown, Dumfries & Galloway.

This artwork was bought for the Gracefield Collection by the Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society in December 2007 as the outstanding young artist of their ‘New Generation' exhibition.
