Jan HOGARTH Born 1968 -
Dr Jan Hogarth is a sculptor based in Dumfries. She graduated with a Master Degree Public Art & Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College in Dundee completing her Doctoral thesis ‘Dislocated Landscapes’ in 1999 at Newcastle University. Much of her work is based on issues of land-use and farming and she uses materials associated with farming in her work such as sheep fleece, fencing wire, steel and leather.
Her sculptural work, which is often monumental in scale, is made for specific sites within the landscape and the drawing submitted for the leading lights project is for a sculptural installation. The piece has not been realised yet, but Jan works on many different ideas, some of which come to fruition and others which remain only in two-dimensions as drawings and plans. The drawings are still very powerful and encourage the viewer to think about the landscape around them in a different way.
