Alexander Merrie HARDIE 1910 - 1989

Biography

Born in Scotland, Alexander Merrie Hardie mainly painted landscapes and portraits. In addition to exhibiting widely across the UK, he also held various posts in educational institutions. In 1963, he became Principal of the College of Technology in Bristol, and in 1966 was appointed Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Bath. While at Bath, he held a one-man exhibition, and painted portraits of his colleagues. In 1977, after spending much of his life in England, he returned to Scotland to live in the village of Cromarty near the Moray Firth. This pen and ink image is one example of his visual explorations of his rural surroundings.
